OUR LADY OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT ACADEMY

About us: a little bit of history |
|
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament was established over seventy years ago. It was the first parish school to minister to Black students in the city of Shreveport. The church and elementary school still serve in the ministry today. The Sisters of the Holy Spirit came to the city in 1927. In September, 1929, they opened a school for first through seventh grades. Today the school is currently staffed by the Sister of the Holy Family and Lay Faculty.
In 1930, an eighth grade was added and the school flourished in the war years of the 1940s. Disaster struck in 1945 when the newest classroom addition burned. For a time, classes were held in the adjacent church.
In 1987, the entire school was moved from the Blessed Sacrament campus to the former Notre Dame High School campus on Murphy Street. At that time, the school expanded to include two Pre-kindergarten classes for three and four year olds. The school now focuses on Early Childhood Education and serves students in Pre-K 4 and Kindergarten. |
